Saturday Afternoon in Elliotborough
It was truly a wonderful Saturday. The weather was cool but sunny and I spent most of the morning showing beach houses on Sullivans Island and Isle of Palms. After my visit to the Barrier Islands of Charleston, I got a chance to hang out and enjoy the many activities in my downtown neighborhood, Elliotborough Cannonborough! First stop to Mac & Murphy, a Charleston Paper Co. where I had to pop in and see the new designs. Liz and Ami the owners were there to show me the greatest new inventory of cards, invitations, and stationery, that can be found no where else in Charleston.
Next I joined up with my good friends to check out the block party at Fuel featuring live music and fake snow. Later on tonight there will be a snow boarding contest.
Cool tunes and warm heaters kept the atmosphere hot on the back deck of Fuel despite the chilly winter weather.
The line out the door at 4:30 in the afternoon is just foreshadowing for the night to come, this party was just getting started when I made my way to the next event.Next up Redux Contemporary Art Center where the portrait slam competition was in full swing.

A variety of techniques were on display by the many talented prize fighting portrait artists.
The art critiques were out in force, including Sandy Logan, pictured center, photographer and architect.

Total concentration is key with both painter and subject. Next I stumbled upon a wedding party happening at the Warehouse at 80 Cannon, one of Charleston's newest event venues.
The happy couple were all smiles and they immediately appointed me their wedding photographer.

The bride and her bridesmaid pose in the urban chic space. I rambled on down Cannon St. to visit Leigh Magar at her "Hat Day" celebration. January 15th is the official "Hat Day" and therefor a perfect Elliotborough activity was to visit the work shop of Elliotborough's very own miliner.
Magar's attention to detail and the colonial style Charleston Single house setting create a lovely feast for the eyes. Happy hatters show off their new toppers! Magar, the hat master, is pictured second from left.
Even Bill and David were in their Hat Day finest next door at Sugar Bake Shop where the fresh cookies had just come out of the oven.
