Granville's Grocery in Wagener Terrace

If you haven't been by Granville's Grocery at 730 Rutledge, you should make time to check it out. We predict Wagener Terrace residents are going to love it as much or more than the previous incarnation, Biggie's. The atmosphere is familiar, but the concept is all new for this space.Gone are the full-service dining and bar experience. In their place are display coolers are stocked with cheeses, jars of pretty pickled veggies, and gorgeous foods prepared by owner Trae Wilson and his catering staff. Shelves hold fresh eggs, veggies and fruits (local if in season), dried beans and grains and honey. Olive oil and a variety of vinegars come in bottles that can be taken back for refills. If you're like me, you're already thinking how convenient it will be to pick up dinner on the way home from One-Of-Those-Days at work..you know, those school nights when you don't feel like cooking and you can't go out.Pots of fresh herbs are interspersed among bins of produce and a respectable variety of wines. They'll serve a couple of wines by the glass, or you can buy a bottle and serve yourself at a table. The beer taps are still there and now you can pick up a growler or take your own in for a refill. You can even treat yourself (or your kids) to an old-fashioned Coke in a bottle. With camera in hand, my friend and I stopped in for a meeting over coffee and homemade banana bread this morning. We learned the wheat bread, ciabatta and chocolate chip cookies are all made in-house as well. While we were there, some very appealing foods were making their way from the kitchen out front. The deli case and breakfast pastry baskets were not full, but we hear everything will be stocked and set up in time for the 'real' grand-opening/kickoff on Saturday, April 28th. Hours are 7:30am - 8:00 pm. Check out their website:http://www.granvillescafeandcatering.com/
