Elliotbourough coffee shop wins prestigious Carolopolis Award
Last week Hope and Union coffee shop on Saint Philip St became the proud recipient of the Carolopolis Award. The Charleston Preservation Society gives out the plaque, now prominently ensconced on the front of the building, to deserving individuals who painstakingly restore and resurrect buildings which have been identified as part of the city's historic fabric. The medal, a reproduction of the city's seal has been awarded to select recipients since 1959, when the Preservation Society established the ground rules for eligibility.
