State of Shock opening Friday at Eye Level Art
Political situations have been the theme and inspiration for many great paintings. Fletcher Crossman has created a body of work which comments on the present day United States' political environment, his show opens this Friday at Eye Level Art at 103 Spring St in the Elliotborough Neighborhood of downtown Charleston, Sc. Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Barack Obama and others are featured in the macabre work. Crossman's style of realism could be perceived as the strange offspring of a marriage between Diego Rivera and Rembrant, however, the large scale figurative paintings in chiaroscuro are much more political than painterly. The message in Crossman's work over the years, always seems to take precedence over the method. And what exactly is the message? “State of Shock is like a graphic novel on a huge scale” Crossman says. “There are some disturbing aspects to it, but it’s been astonishing to see how the exhibition's themes have become increasingly topical. Every day we hear about the anger between Left and Right, and State of Shock simply takes that anger to its logical conclusion. It’s something I feel passionate about, and I think that passion shows in the work.” Click here to read more about this event.Ps: I just previewed the show and it is very interesting!
